Chief Engineer
Stardate 55205 (During 'Damage Control')
Oh, where to begin? Damage reports, repair estimates, requisition forms? And, if I'm not mistaken, I even have a few crew evaluations to fill out. I knew that being the head of an engineering department would be one part research, one part maintenance and a whole lot of administration, but with everything that's been going on around here lately its becoming ever more difficult to accomplish even a single element of that ‘Chief Engineers Formula’.
Well, first things first; the Raider did not come through this recent catastrophe unscathed. Far from it. Hull breaches left right and center, power disruptions, malfunctions and not even spare parts to go around. And those bloody turbolifts! One second you're zooming along, whistling a merry tune and the next you're making emergency repairs just to bring the lights back up again. I've been thanking the powers that be for the brief respite were going to get when we reach Deep Space 7. At least I'll have the time I need to put this little ship back together again.
Hopefully.
Other than that things seem to be progressing nicely. Meshing with the crew has been better than I would've expected before coming aboard, primarily due to Adolphus and Henry. That Dorlun might be lacking in height, but he more than makes up for it in witticisms. Just what I need. Henry Klaps is getting into the feel of things in that regard as well, learning to relax more around us senior officers. At least until I threaten to report him to Captain Clay for breach of conduct again. And he's a hell of a Tactical officer, I'll give him that.
Damn. That's the emergency klaxon sounding again. Please tell me that Valanti hasn't attached the wrong end of a retro-spike to the reactor assembly for a third time. Engineering, much to my horror, is already a mess. Note to myself: Have a brief, quiet word with our good XO and ask her exactly why she thought it necessary to blow up my department.
Executive Officer
Stardate 55014 (During 'Old Enemies')
I have only been on Raider a short time, but it has lived up to all my hopes and expectations. I'd like a little 'milk run' mission to take a break from the danger, but, if I must face danger, these are the men and women I'd like to face it with. They are simply incredible! I am simply the most fortunate officer in all of Starfleet.
My current challenge is developing closeness and belonging with the senior officers on the ship. To be honest, our Chief Engineer, LTJG Evan Yearling, and our Science Officer, LTJG Adolphos Phobos, have such expertise that they are almost intimidating. Really, how am I supposed to lead THEM? To make matters more difficult, the Captain is hard to read and harder to get close to. Still, I know he'll never leave a man behind and I respect the hell out of that.
Now, personally, I want to dig a little deeper into what makes LTJG Yearling tick. Something troubles him and, maybe, I can use my own past to get through whatever barrier he's erected. And, just maybe, will help myself in the process. It couldn't hurt.
Well, I need to rush off and get the 'social' together and spring the surprise on the captain. It will be a wonderful day.
